Essential safeguarding training

Following the conviction of four care staff  for mistreating people with learning disabilities at Whorlton hospital, are you sure your staff safeguarding training is adequate enough?

Unfortunately all too often we see training being a tick-box exercise with staff not getting what they need to support people to the best of their ability.

Safeguarding training is essential for staff to be able to keep people safe, to know what their responsibilities are and to know what to do if they suspect or even witness abuse. 

We receive feedback from learners saying how valuable it was for them to have an experienced trainer in front of them, with their peers, enabling them to ask questions about what to do in certain situations and how to follow it up, and to help staff teams recognise best practice. 

Are you sure your staff know what to do to keep people safe – are you doing enough? Training should be about more than ticking boxes.
